Position Summary: This is an as-needed position, located in the Legacy Health & Wellness Building at 1201 N. Bolton Avenue in Alexandria, Louisiana. No night or weekend work is required.
Primary Responsibilities: The primary responsibility for this position is compounding and dispensing prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care. This involves performing the following tasks: reviewing prescriptions issued by the physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed; compounding medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients; directing pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals; answering questions and providing information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals; maintaining established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs; entering data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory; assaying medications to determine identity, purity, and strength; instructing interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy.
Physical Requirements: The individual in this role must be able to regularly sit and use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel; stand for long periods of time, walk, and regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; climb on a small ladder; reach with hands and arms; and bend, stoop, and kneel. Job Qualifications: A B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. and 2-4 years of related experience and/or training are required. Knowledge of PioneerRx is preferred.
