March 4, 2025 – RoyOMartin’s mascot Otis the Black Bear and Talent and Engagement Manager Melanie Chapman were special guests at Fairview High School’s Louisiana Day, where students celebrated the state’s rich culture and heritage through a variety of unique activities. Otis and Melanie visited with 4th and 5th grade students and teachers Candace Morrow, Janessa Ramos, and Melony Morris. At the event, students discovered that Louisiana’s forests are the state’s leading agricultural resource and that Louisiana is among the national top timber producers. And Otis learned some Cajun dance moves!
Students also enjoyed a special storytime, featuring the book “My Family Makes Board,” about RoyOMartin’s forestry and manufacturing operations. Through this engaging story, they learned how pine trees are processed and transformed into oriented strand board. The lesson helped them gain insight into the vital role forestry plays in Louisiana’s economy.
