What is StructWall®?
StructWall® is a heavy-duty structural OSB wall sheathing panel built for exterior wall assemblies that need to hit rated structural capacity. It gives your framing the extra muscle and shear strength required to meet tough building standards, making it a reliable choice for solid exterior walls.
What is the difference between StructWall® and StructWallXL®?
StructWallXL® is the extended-length version of a StructWall® panel, designed to sheathe taller walls with a single, continuous sheet. By running the panel all the way to the top, you completely get rid of horizontal joints and cut out the extra time, labor, and lumber needed for blocking.
What is the difference between StructWall® and TuffStrand®?
Both are APA-rated OSB sheathing. StructWall® is specified where the wall assembly calls for a structural-rated panel designation, while TuffStrand® covers general sheathing applications across walls and roofs. Your engineered plans or shear wall schedule will specify which rating the assembly requires.
When do I need a Structural 1 panel?
Structural 1 designations are typically called out on shear walls and diaphragms carrying higher lateral loads, common in high-wind and earthquake-prone zones. Follow the panel designation specified on your engineered drawings.
Is StructWall® code compliant?
StructWall® is manufactured to DOC PS2 and PRP-108 and verified by APA – The Engineered Wood Association (mill number 511).
Where is StructWall® used?
StructWall® can be used in exterior sidewall sheathing, roof sheathing, and floor panels for residential, multifamily, and light commercial construction.
How do I prevent wall buckling with OSB sheathing?
Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s nailing schedule and leave the specified gaps at the panel edges and ends so the wood has room to expand and contract naturally as moisture changes.
